It started as a favor for one friend, and it never stopped being that kind of software.
We're PettigrewLab, a small family software shop in Colorado. We started building things together as a way to learn how real products get made - not just how to write code, but how to find a problem worth solving and ship something people actually use.
A friend of ours runs his own lawn care company, and every week he was stuck on the same three things: planning an efficient route between stops, sending a real invoice to a small property developer he mowed for instead of a handwritten receipt, and keeping track of his mileage for taxes. So we built him a tool that did exactly those three things - nothing more.
Then it grew, the way useful things do. Photo proof got added so his customers could see before-and-after shots instead of taking his word for it. A customer portal got added so people would stop calling to ask whether their invoice had gone out. Every new feature became a real project, and a real lesson in building software that has to work on a truck at 7am, not just in a demo.
That's still the whole idea. LawnMow IT is priced flat and built for one or two-truck operations because that's who it was made for in the first place - not a growth-stage company with a procurement department.
The first feature - fewer miles between stops.
A real invoice, not a handwritten receipt.
Before-and-after on every visit.
LawnMow IT is built and run by a small family software shop in Colorado. The same tool grew a version for the other trades, HomeServicesIT, for plumbers, electricians and contractors.
